How I got started in Triathlon.
I enjoyed all three sports individually. Grew up swimming and lifeguarding, raced BMX’s as a kid. A friend competed in a half iron event in Osoyoos and it seemed like a challenge worth tackling to combine all three sports into one event.
What’s the best triathlon advice someone ever gave you?
Get professionally fitted on your bike.
What's the worst triathlon advice someone ever gave you?
To put salt water in your water bottles to replace electrolytes. Glad I didn’t do it. The guy who recommended it ended up in the med tent for the next four hours after the race.
What has been your most challenging race experience? The second year in doing triathlons I competed in the Wildflower long course Triathlon in California. After a week of camping I was ill prepared for the heat and tough climbs on the run course. I wanted to die.
What advice would you offer to age-groupers who wish to improve in the sport of triathlon?
Train consistently and use a coach. You are far less likely to get injured.
